KTM Duke 125/390 Chamber Delete

When I first find out that there is option to delete the chamber (or pre-muffler) with leaving the CAT in place, I was really stoked. I did the research but and found that in US there are many people running with it, but did not found any info for running it on 125. As the 390 and 125 share the same muffler and exhaust, I knew that installation should not be the problem but how it will affect the sound or performance was unknown. I decided to try it out and ordered the Competition Werkes piece from US. Luckily the shipping was fast and the COVID-19 Problems did not affected it much.

I ordered the stainless version because it was cheaper and I did not have to pay so much in our customs. I had the black paint from previous exhaust painting project and decided to paint it black by myself. It's easy job and I can recommend the VHT products as I have had only positive experience with them and they are really awesome paint for exhaust and headers. The paint even contains some ceramic in it and if you want to do it correctly it must be baked or ridden in to get the paint to cure.

Installation was quite easy. To remove the chamber for first time took way more time, but the second time it was really a 5 min job. When installing the new pipe, you have to remove the exhaust rings and 1 bushing from the chamber. Also I could not get the original mounting to be suit the same, but I just used another nut and sorted that out. Nothing that hard.

The original chamber itself weights around 3kg. The CW piece is 0.5kg. So there is quite a difference in weight, but the performance part of it needs to be tested. The bike will be louder for sure, but that is not my goal here and if needed, I will leave the DB killer in, even on track.

So next step is to see how it will run. I think I will add some fueling device like Rabid Bike or BoosterPlug and non race aftermarket filter. But I also guess it will depends how the bike will run with that setup and I think I have to take it to Dyno to be sure we are going in correct direction. Last but not least, I still have to constantly remind me that the bike is only ridden 20km, so we can't and would not push it to the limit now.

I also added the parts in the Weight table and we can see the total is more then 9-kg lost. For 125cc bike that is street legal and can be ridden with 2 people its quite amazing result and I know we can get some more off from it.
